In most browsers, the two banners above should look quite
a bit alike, particularly as they scroll by on the page.
In fact, you might ask, what is the big difference?
In terms of file size (a.k.a. bandwidth), one of them is
more than 10 times larger than the other. That means it takes more than 10 times longer to load, which can be quite significant on a large page with a lot of banners. Because some servers compress html files differently than graphics files, the difference can even be even greater on some systems.
Bear in mind that, if you try this page again now, you may not notice the difference in loading speed if your browser now has the files in its buffer. Try pressing "Reload" or "Refresh" and see.
The FastLoading Banner is made with nothing but html code. The other one is a graphic file (gif). With the use of the "style" attribute, HTML links do not need to be underlined, making them look even more like graphic banners.
